Identical twins hope for synchronised diving gold at Olympics
Helen and Carol Galashan, 21, are among the world's top ten synchronised
diving partnerships.
The sisters are former champion gymnasts and only switched to the new sport
two years ago, because they had reached their peak age for the sport.
Carol, who lives in Leeds with her sister, said: "I think being a twin really
helps. We do have a special bond and that helps with the synchronisation a
lot.
"I know we have surprised a lot of people with how quickly we have come on
but a lot of that is down to our gymnastics background too.
"When we were doing gymnastics we always wanted to work together but there
was not really the opportunity. In diving we can work as a team."
Helen said: "We can share the highs and the lows. It's really nice to be able
to do this together."
The twins train for around five hours a day, six days a week, and are also
studying the same Leeds Metropolitan University sports degree course.
Carol said: "We're best friends. We do everything together. Sometimes there
just aren't enough hours in the day- you have to be very organised to fit it
all in."
