New to all of this

Hi my name is Kim and I am 17 weeks along with boy/girl twins. Yikes!
This my first pregnancy ever (and last) and I would love some advice on how many items I should be getting two of.  We are starting to think about our registry and need to know what exactly to register for in duplicate.  First of all is the crib or cribs?  I hear different things like they sleep together for the first 6 months.  Then others say it was the first 6 weeks.  Should we just bit the bullet and buy two cribs at first?  I know about the discount at Babies R Us. I think what I have read is to get two bouncers, swings, highchairs and obviously car seats.  Then only one pack n' play.  Does that sound right?
With a boy and a girl how do people decorate the room?  I was think just something with bold colors and not gender specific.  But do I buy two of the same of the bedding?  Gosh I have so many questions?
Any advice would be greatly helpful.
Thanks.

Hi Kim, it is an exciting

Hi Kim, it is an exciting and nervous time isn't it !? :)

You will get a million different opinions from people. In the end you will just have to decide what works for you.

We had two cribs from the get go, even though the girls slept together for the first couple of months.

We also ended up getting two pack n' plays. We started with just one, but they aren't all that big and the girls enjoy having their own space now and then.

Be sure to stop into the forums where a lot of new twin parents are going through the same things as you are!

I am the mom of twin boys.

I am the mom of twin boys.  Like twinsdad said, you really have to figure out what your babies will like.  I know that's not what you were looking for, but all babies are different.  My babies have always slept separately.  I don't think they would get any sleep if we put them in the same crib.  But think of it this way, they will probably be in a crib for at least 2 years.  And depending on how big they are, they will probably need their own crib eventually.  So, if you can afford to get two now, you might as well, even if you don't use one for a while.  Now, I only used one swing, which worked otu for us.  Instead of spending the money on 2 swings, you may want to get one full size one and one travel one.  That way, in the event they actually want to be in the swing at the same time, you can do so with out spending so much money.  2 high chairs is a must as is 2 car seats.  I also had 2 pack n plays but I just happened to have them from my other two kids.  But they did use them separately.  I hope this helps and good luck to you!

You'll get a lot of

You'll get a lot of different responses as to what you need and don't need when it comes to multiples.  When I was registering when I was pregnant for my showers I was told by friends of mine that already had babies to register for double of everything like cribs, bouncers, high chairs and stuff like that.  As for swings they had said to just get one swing because you could rotate between the bouncer and the swing instead of having two swings which will work better for us once they are able to go in the swing due to the space we have in our house.  I know the definite things you should overstock on are bibs, bottles, burping cloths, and onesies because they will go through them quickly even the pajamas with feet I know I go through a lot of that stuff in one day with just month olds.  But also be prepared in case you might have to buy preemie clothes it would be good to save gift cards you get and I know Babys R Us and Walmart carry a lot of preemie clothes.  My husband and I had all newborn clothes and when our girls came home they only weighed 4lbs 5oz and 5lbs 13 oz and couldn't fit in the newborn clothes so we had to go out and buy preemie clothes last minute to have clothes for them to come home in and to wear at home.  Hope this was helpful.

You will want 2 cribs in the

You will want 2 cribs in the the end whether you get 2 now or later is up to you.  My twins slept in a co-sleeper next to our bed for the frist 12 weeks.  After 12 weeks they were separate in their own cribs in their room.  They are 5 now and still share the same room.
When you make the bed, you will want to double make the bed.  For each bed, I used a mattress pad, then a fitted sheet, then I used the "Ultimate Crib Sheet" over that rather than another mattress pad and fitted sheet.  This way in the middle of the night when you need to change the sheets (which will inevitably happen), you only have to strip off one set.  Then in the morning when you are actually awak you can remake the bed.
As for bouncers, swings, gliders, etc., that is going to be a personal preference based on your budget, space in your home, and personal preference.  I HIGHLY recommend checking out consignment sales (which should be happening this time of year and then again in the late winter-early spring months) for big ticket items.  We had 2 pack and plays.  We purchased them for $15 and $20 each at consigment sales.  Our 2 Exersaucers were purchased for $10 each at Consignment sales.  All of these items worked just fine and I was able to sell them afterwards for the same price I purchased them from.
If you want these big ticket items to match, I recommend joining a Twins (or Mothers of Multiples) Club.  As a member, you usually get to shop early and will be able to find things that match.
