expecting twins, new car recommendations

We are expecting twins and need to get a new car that has better safety and room for the four of us.  I was looking at some SUV's such as the Lincoln Navigator with bucket seats in the scond row and a 3rd row of seats for any extra passengers, however the gas mileage is horrible.  Please advice what you think is best bucket seats? vs. bench seat? is a 3rd row of seats necessary? should we be looking at minivans?  This is our first go around please help!  What type of car, SUV, minivan did you have when your twins were born?

Our family car is a GMC

Our family car is a GMC Yukon. We got it before our twins (which are our only children), but we bought it knowing that we would be having a child soon. It works out great for us, there are build in clips for two car seats and plenty of room for our double stroller, groceries, etc etc. As for gas mileage ... ugh horrible. But I think they do make a hybrid version which will get you a few more MPGs. It has bench seating, I'm not sure what, if any effect bucket seats will have.

If I were buying a car right now knowing that we have twins and what we need to carry, I would buy the Yukon again.

Just remember that you aren't just hauling babies in car seats, but also all of the junk that comes along with them (play pens, stroller, toys, etc etc).

Thanks for the info, we

Thanks for the info, we looked at some Yukons and thought there would be some issues with the bench seat and accessing the 3rd row, do you find that to be a problem with two car seats?
Do you have your car seats set on each side or one on the side and one in the middle?

Since we are just a family

Since we are just a family of four, we keep the rear seats folded up which gives us more room for stroller and stuff in the trunk. Because we don't need to get to the rear seat, we usually leave the car seats in the middle and behind the passenger seat (where the built in car seat clips are).

If you need to use your rear seating you can put your car seats in the middle and behind the driver. This will allow the seat behind the passenger to fold up and give access to the back row seating.
