How long does your doctor want you to hold out?
We new early on that my wife was going to have a planned c-section. Our OB told her she had to make it to 36 weeks. For a while we weren't sure that she could make it, but she did!
Has your doctor set a certain number of weeks they want you to shoot for? Do you think you will make it? Do you even have a choice?

im due aug 26th.....she said she would take them before the end of july!!
I'm due somewhere between June 23rd and July 1st
. I am having a c~section because the twins are identical and are sharing a placenta. I am almost 30 weeks now and the doctor wants to wait week by week to see how we are doing. So far so good. Just getting big!!! and uncomfortable!! The doctor is thinking probably around the end of May. Who knows!!
Hang in there Char, you can do it!
My OB kept wanting to wait a bit longer- everything was going fine- I was just huge!!! I knew I had to get to 36 weeks to deliver at the hospital I wanted. Mine were identical and shared a placenta as well- I still had them vaginally. We were on pins and needles til the end thinking I might need a section because Paul (baby b) kept flipping upside down! Even on delivery day he still flipped- they had me ready to go if necessary- I had to deliver in the operating room and the ob had the ultrasound machine on my belly the whole time to make sure everything was o.k. But my midwife delivered both boys and the OB just cheered her on and monitored the u/s machine until she was done!!!

twinsdad: we also knew early on that we would have to have a c-section but my dr. told me that i had to be atleast 35 weeks. I was able to make it to 36 weeks though.
lanie! all i can say is WOW GIRL you rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i keep going back and forth between do i REALLY want a c section or should i try the vaginal even though one is head up?? im also getting my tubes tied and am leaning towards the planned c section.....
2boys on the way:
Thanks!!! Actually, I was just petrified of having a surgery! I really didn't even want an epidural (I didn't have one with my 1st) I am so glad I did have the epidural- it was wonderful!!!! I hate shots... but soooooo worth it!!!
For me, if there was a chance of having them without surgery I was going for it!!!! After I delivered Jack,, I was so exhausted I waited 24 minutes to do it again!!! They had people lined up to use the operating room and someone (who should've been fired probably!!!) kept calling the room to see if we were done! The OB started yelling and after about the 3rd call hung up on them after saying we'd be done when we were done!!! It was such a crazy experience, I had about 10 staff to assist in the room- mostly precautionary measures and two ped. nurses for the babies, anesthesiologist, etc. They offered to tie my tubes while I was there- could've done it... but chicken of that too!!!
Definitely don't want any more kids, but hubby and I are too busy anyhow (tee hee!)
I'm debating on whether or not I need to switch doctors now
I had a visit and ultrasound yesterday. The twins are doing GREAT and each weigh 4 lbs. We're still not sure if they're identical or fraternal. They each have their own placenta, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're fraternal. Anyway, I asked my dr about when we could schedule a c-section. She said at 39 weeks!!!! I about fell off of the table! Are you kidding me!! I tried arguing with her that I had a previous c-section, I have had bladder surgery because my uterus fell after my 1st pregnancy and pushed my bladder out, they said I have HPV (still not 100% on that) and I want my tubes tied. On top of all of that, my husband works out of state, and it will take him at LEAST 9 hours to get here once I call him if I were to go into labor on my own. The hospital that we're going to deliver at is at least an hour away from where we live. I called today to complain and demand that they schedule a c-section. They said that the dr that I see is the head of the department, and there really isn't anyone above her that I could talk to about it
They are giving a note to her nurse though to call me about my concerns. My old doctor in Las Vegas before we moved back here said that they like to see Mom's with multiples make it to around 37 weeks, and that is generally when they either schedule a c-section for, or induce. THAT is what I was planning on hearing yesterday, NOT well, let's wait and see if you go into labor on your own, and THEN we'll do a c-section! Not to mention the fact that the dr won't even be in town the entire week before I'm due!!!
That is a tough decision. Perhaps when you talk through your concerns again with your doc, she will agree with you. IMO, it is above all your body and your babies. And your argument is sound. I would think you would be so stressed those two weeks between 37 & 39 knowing that that hospital and your husband are both so far away. That alone seems to be a reason to induce earlier. I wish you the best of luck!
39 weeks!? wowow! Our OB said we needed to make it to 36 weeks and scheduled a C section for 37 weeks. We went in a week before the C section (at 36 weeks) and he said, "well are you ready to get those girls out or what?" Then he bumped the C section up to the next day or two.
He said that he likes to schedule for 37 weeks so that you are mentally prepared to get there, but physically a lot of twin moms just can't make it that long even.
Thats why I liked my dr that we had out in Las Vegas. He said that they would schedule for 37 weeks. I'm hoping to hear back from my dr's nurse next Monday/Tuesday when she gets back from vacation. I never made it to 39 weeks with either of my single births, so I don't know why she thinks I will make it with twins!!
I have my next regular appt with her on the 30th (she didn't have any openings again until then) and I'm hoping to have everything all scheduled by then. I won't have another ultrasound until around the 2nd week in May. These babies are growing like CRAZY!! I hope that they continue to grow and develop as well as they have already!!!
